Mooncup® – the original soft silicone cup
We are really proud to be official stockists of the Award winning Mooncup, the original soft silicone cup. Mooncup® were the first sanitary product manufacturer in the world to be certified as an ethical business. Made in the UK, these little menstrual cups have been used and trusted by women worldwide since 2002. Your Mooncup is reusable and will last for years #plasticfreeperiods
The Mooncup comes in two sizes (choose yours from the dropdown menu above):
SIZE A: Recommended for those who are 30 and over, and all who have given birth vaginally regardless of age.
SIZE B: Recommended for those under the age of 30 who have not given birth vaginally.
Each Mooncup comes in an attractive, FSC card, bar-coded box. Each box contains one Mooncup in an organic, fair-trade cotton storage pouch, and a detailed usage guide with instructions on getting started with the Mooncup.
Comfortable – Made from soft, medical-grade silicone, it’s so comfortable you can’t feel it’s there. While tampons absorb 35% vaginal moisture, the Mooncup menstrual cup won’t dry you out or leave fibres behind.
Convenient – Your Mooncup is always there, ready. No last minute dash to the shops, no stockpiling different absorbency pads or tampons. The Mooncup frees you from having to throw away used products or carry bulky spares (as you head to the toilet or taking up backpack space on your travels).
Reliable – Holding 3 x more than a regular tampon, the Mooncup gives you longer lasting protection on heavier days. And because it’s non-absorbent, it won’t cause dryness when your period’s light.
Money-saving – You only need one Mooncup that pays for itself after 6-8 months – you’re then saving that monthly spend on sanitary protection.
Gentle – Latex-free, hypoallergenic and containing no dyes, perfumes, BPA, phthalates, plastic, bleaches or toxins.
How to use your Mooncup?
While many get the knack of using the Mooncup straight away, it can take up to 3 cycles. Remember, your reusable menstrual cup should last for years and years. Once you’ve got it, you won’t look back.
Fold your Mooncup. There are a few ways to do this which you can see here so just choose one that suits you.
Part the labia and place the cup as low down in the vagina as it will comfortably sit (lower down than a tampon). The base of the cup should sit as low as possible in the vagina. As vaginal length varies, the first time you use your Mooncup you may need to trim the stem to get the best fit for you. More info here
When you want to remove your Mooncup, with clean hands, gently squeeze the bottom of the cup to release the seal then slide the cup out. Then, empty the contents into the toilet. We recommend emptying it every 4-8 hours.
Rinse your Mooncup with water or wipe it with a tissue.
Fold and re-insert.
First use & between periods
Before you use your Mooncup menstrual cup for the first time and after you’ve finished your period, we recommend giving it a thorough clean. To do this you can:
Boil it immersed in water for 5 to 7 minutes (in a pan you use just for this purpose)
Use sterilising solution or tablets. These are commonly used to sterilise baby equipment. Follow the manufacturer’s guidelines for dilution and soak for the minimum recommended time. Then rinse thoroughly with clean water.
Cleaning your Mooncup during your period
When a sink is at hand:
Wash your Mooncup with water or mild, non-perfumed soap. Always rinse it well with water after using soap as any traces left on the Mooncup may cause irritation.
In public toilets or at work:
Wash your hands at the sink and then either
Take a small bottle of water into the toilet cubicle with you, empty your Mooncup into the toilet bowl, rinse with a small amount of water and re-insert; or
Wipe the Mooncup with toilet paper and re-insert.
As you would when using tampons, always wash your hands before inserting and removing your Mooncup®.
