How to use
The Zao Concealer is the indispensable first step to achieving a perfect complexion and eliminating imperfections. It comes in different shades to suit different skin tones, with its stick format allowing you to apply the product directly and locally. Select a shade one tone lighter than the colour of your skin. To soften dark under-eye circles, start at the inner corner of your eye, move along the edge of the dark circles and blend towards your lower lashes. For a fast finish, apply the corrector directly or on your finger; for a more precise application, use a brush. To minimise imperfections using your finger, apply the cover stick to the area to correct and dab around it to even out the complexion.
Zao beauty tip: To balance and clear up your complexion, apply concealer on blood vessels, redness on the nose or deep lines of expression.
To hide spots that stand out, choose a darker tone than your skin tone..
Organic castor oil – This oil is emollient and so facilitates softer skin. It is also moisturising, increasing the water content of skin to keep it soft and smooth.
Organic carnauba wax – Secreted by leaves of a palm tree native to Brazil, this wax is a film-forming agent that protects skin via the production of a continuous film; this helps makeup to last for a longer duration.
Organic bamboo macerate – Bamboo macerate is extremely rich in organic silica, required by the body for the production of collagen, the body’s anti-ageing weapon. Our bodies require silica to maintain elasticity of the upper layers of the epidermis.

About Zao & Responsibly Sourced Palm-Oil:
Intensive cultivation of palm oil, mainly in Indonesia, leads to massive primary forest destruction in favour of palm plantations. Palm oil and ingredient complexes derived from palm oil are widely used in cosmetic products.
Cosmetic industry uses many palm oil derivatives, more difficult to identify, because the word PALM does not appear in the ingredients list.
Zao products may contain palm oil derivatives but it is important to understand that it is difficult for us to exclude them as raw material suppliers do not offer other alternatives. We are forced to find ourselves in this situation.
Nevertheless, we are trying to do our best by selecting only RSPO certified palm oil derivatives.
What is RSPO certified palm oil?
RSPO: Round table for Sustainable Palm Oil
RSPO is an association founded in 2004. It aims to promote the growth and use of palm oil that meets specific sustainability criteria at all levels: producers, traders, distributors, etc.
RSPO standard’s set of criteria are applied to all the steps of transformation of palm oil up to its selling. Its aim is to guarantee the traceability of sustainable palm oil, up to the final product.
RSPO certified palm oil shows companies commitment and also certifies sustainability.
You can find more information about RSPO certified palm oil here https://www.rspo.orgRSPO certified palm oil is the best alternative we have at the moment. However, we do not give up and are trying to find new raw materials.
Here is a list of raw materials derived from RSPO palm oil present in ZAO products:
– SODIUM STEAROYL LACTYLATE
– ZINC STEARATE
– SUCROSE PALMITATE
– PROPYLENE GLYCOL
– GLYCERYL CAPRILAT
Our suppliers’ certificates guarantee that their raw materials are derived from RSPO certified palm oil
For other raw materials frequently used as palm oil derivatives, we have managed to find an alternative:
– CETEARYL ALCOHOL-coconut oil derivative
– STEARATE GLYCEROL-coconut oil derivative
– ISOSTEARIC ACID-rapeseed oil derivative
Zao Make-Up is a make-up brand owned by Cosm’Etika France. It was co-founded in 2012 by four friends, David Reccole, Philippe Donnat, Yvan Rouvier and Salima Macozzi Reccole. Lovers of nature and aware of the impact of our consumption on the environment, the 4 friends chose to develop a brand of organic makeup in accordance with their deep values. They gave birth to Zao Make-Up, the first rechargeable make-up brand, 100% natural and certified organic by Ecocert.
Convinced that a line of certified organic makeup must use a natural packaging, the elegance and modernity of bamboo assert themselves as obvious for David, Philippe, Yvan and Salima. All trees are carbon storers but bamboo’s exceptional growth rate makes it a carbon capture champion during its life-cycle. It allows Zao products to display a reduced carbon footprint.
Bamboo is also incorporated into formulas in the form of sap powder, leaf hydrosol or bamboo rhizome macerate. This plant is rich in organic silica, an element naturally present in our body and that which participates in the process of producing collagen, which preserves the elasticity of tissues.
Bamboo is the distinction and identity of Zao Make-Up.
“Oriental philosophies and ways of thinking have touched me, especially Buddhism. Bamboo has a very important role in Asia and in Buddhism in particular. The name of the mark was to testify to this link. Buddhism has many expressions and branches. Among them, two are well known and are based on the observation of nature. This is ZEN and TAO. As an invitation to meditation, peace of mind and the search for harmony and authenticity following the example of nature, ZAO is a contraction of these two names.” David Reccole One of the founders of Zao.
